Q "And now, my first questions on modelling/casting...
- I am a mainly a carver, but have done a few pieces in clay. I recently
bought a product called Sculpey. Have you ever tried it? Do you like it?
"
A........Yes,, sculpey is very handy, ...I prefer super
sculpey. It becomes harder when heated, (not "rubbery" like sculpey)
and is capable of holding more detail. It is also better for carving
and sanding. I use it for smaller pieces.
Roll up some used aluminium foil for a core, it will save on sculpey
and also make baking faster. Keep sections relatively even, just
thick enough to get the job done. Toaster ovens work great for curing,
also for small sections you can use a heat gun (careful not to scorch
the material). !!do not bake skulpy in any appliance that is used for food preparation !!
Q "What was the original "D" gargoyle made from? "
A..........All the originals were made in wax.
Then a silicon rubber mold with a plaster backing is made from the original.
This intern is filled with hydrostone, (a gypsum product not unlike
plaster) to produce the final piece.
